Our Location - Porthleven and Penrose
Our local village Porthleven
Porthleven is the UK's most southerly working port.
It is ideal as a base for a holiday. A fishing village on the South Coast near Helston with its own sandy beach, harbour, pubs, restaurants, art galleries and supermarket. Boat trips can be taken from the harbour.

How was Porthleven built?
The construction of the harbour, which was completed in 1825, had been hugely problematical and, although a large drifter fleet was soon engaged in the mackerel and pilchard fisheries, Porthleven remained a dangerous and difficult harbour.
Major improvements were carried out in the 1850s, after the port was taken over by Harvey & Co. of Hayle, and the handsome, massively-built harbour that we see today dates from this time.
Porthleven went on to be famed for its boatbuilding and shipowning, but it never fully overcame its original, intrinsic problem; you only have to visit the place during one of the frequent southwesterly gales that beset Cornwall through the winter to see why.

Penrose Estate, Loe Pool and Loe Bar
Loe Pool is the largest fresh water lake in Cornwall and you can walk down into the Penrose Estate and enjoy the walks and cycle paths. You will often find our cattle grazing around the Estate. You can cycle or walk from the campsite into Helston, which is approximately 2 miles through the paths.
The Loe Bar is a great barrier of sand and flint, which has been formed over centuries by the winter gales and fierce under currents piling it up at the mouth of the Cober Estuary.
